Civilized Sasquatches - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

Click the link above to see the whole design (and vote me a 5)!

I just submitted my first design for voting on Threadless.com. I’m hoping for a high score, but if these yetis fall short, I’ll just try, try again with creatures of a different fur!

Not that Threadless needs my endorsement, but there are some really fantastic artists on there. Since joining, I’ve bought shirts designed by the lovely Priscilla Wilson, the bombastic Joe Van Wetering, and am thoroughly tempted to get the latest from Luke Ramsey. And I’m not even much of a shirt person. Golly, what’s happening to me.

San Diego Comic-Con

July 15th, 2008

I’m going to be exhibiting at San Diego Comic-Con from July 24-27! So if you’re in the building and looking for something to do after yukking it up with Kevin Smith, gawking at Rose McGowan, and getting Dakota Fanning’s autograph (and digits?), come by to see me and I promise to admire your Battlestar Galactica costume.

I’ll be boothing with Buenaventura Press (in spot 1732, right next to the Small Press Pavilion) and peddling three delicious comic books, along with a handful of affordable original drawings.

Adventures in Loneliness

May 23rd, 2008

Artwork by me, typesetting by Danforth France.

Hal Rudnick’s solo comedy show is opening at UCB Theater in Los Angeles on May 29th, and I recommend attending if you enjoy laughter. Check out some of Hal’s videos, or watch him in Reno 911 (season 4, episode 9, you superfans).

Everything on the poster (Hal, people, buildings, billboard) was inked or watercolored separately, then scanned and combined as layers in Photoshop. I’m finally learning to use technology as an aid…

On page 82 of the LA People 2008 special, Mathew Cullen & Javier Jimenez of Motion Theory Studios are drowning in line drawings.

Noodle Doodling

May 11th, 2008

I drew my desk at work the other day and realized what a slob I am.

I enjoy mapping out mundane objects and machinery with this method…trying to capture the nuts and bolts of something complicated without possessing enough practical understanding of how the parts function together. It might be incorrect to use cargo cults as an analogy, but they come to mind.

That’s a pretentious way of saying, “I don’t care about perspective or scale, and I was also too lazy to draw every button on my keyboard.”

In other news, my mini-comic, It’s Sexy When People Know Your Name, is now available at Buenaventura Press, where you can pick up LOTS of other goodies. I’ve been especially digging the latest from Johnny Ryan, Matt Furie, and Souther Salazar.

My little guy:

Full of practical tips for genders of all sizes. Oh, and drawings of noodles.

Arthur Magazine

April 25th, 2008

I have a couple of drawings in the latest issue of Arthur Magazine, which is awesome.

See my new comic, “I Have No Idea,” part of a full-color spread edited by Buenaventura Press (also featuring comics by Matt Furie, Anna Sommer, Souther Salazar, Jeffrey Brown, Al Columbia, and more) on pg. 33. Here is a teaser:

I also have two kitties in there. This fellow on pg. 18:

And this portrait of my friend’s cat, “Bert,” on pg. 56:

And yes, I am spastically excited to see my drawings in print.

Look here to find out where you can get a copy of Arthur!
